Lava skimmer

The lava skimmer was a cauldron gripped by tongs at the end of a long metal pole and used by the Mustafarians of Mustafar to collect lava from the planet's natural lava streams. These devices served as both crucible tongs and pouring shanks.

Lava skimmers consisted of a lava-resistant ceramic cauldron gripped by a ratchet clamp at the end of a lava-proof metal shank. To prevent the tongs from crushing the cauldron walls, they were equipped with pressure-stop locks.

"Lava skimmer" was a title also used to describe those Mustafarians who employed these devices in their mining operations. Their pwoerful bodies enabled Southern Mustafarians to lift these heavy devices with relative ease.
