The LF9 ion engine was a type of sublight drive manufactured by Alderaan Royal Engineers. They were the primary engines of the Victory-class Star Destroyer. However, the engines were not capable of providing the speeds needed for the vessel to match the velocities of other combat starships or starfighters. Most enemy ships could simply outrun a Victory-class, forcing their captains to use superior positioning during combat.
