The Nameless control device, sometimes referred to as a control unit or control matrix, was a custom headset created by the Ithorian scientist Baron Boolan in his capacity as Nihil Minister of Advancement. The device created a neural connection between the wearer and Boolan's cybernetically-modified Nameless, allowing the user to control the creatures' behavior. The neural connection also contained an afferent signal, which connected the user to the Nameless' experience. This gave the wearer a vague sense of what the Nameless could see, but also induced pain whenever a controlled Nameless was injured.
When Jedi Master Keeve Trennis's team infiltrated Boolan's asteroid base to rescue Sskeer from Boolan's experimentation, the Ithorian attempted to use his control device to encourage a Nameless to calcify Trennis. Sskeer deceived Boolan and stole the device, and used it to subdue the scientist. Soon thereafter, when a gang of pirates attacked the base, the pirates leveraged Sskeer's neural connection with the Nameless to incapacitate and kidnap him. They stole the control device and ultimately gave it to Nihil leader Marchion Ro.
