The NT-242, also simply known as the 242 hunting rifle, was a type of sniper rifle. The NT-242 was considered a tank buster by many users and was one of the heaviest longblasters. The NT-242 was powerful at range, and could be modified to have a disruptor shot which could engage vehicles and it's propulsive shell was powerful enough to kill a full-grown rancor. It included a remote trigger interface and a sniper barrel flash suppressor and could also be modified with a macroscope that allowed for two magnification levels, as well as a power cell that greatly increased the times the blaster could be fired before being required to cool down.

The Dowutin big game hunter and mercenary Grummgar owned a NT-242 as a hunting rifle. He used it while illegally hunting molsumes on the planet Ithor. While conversing with fellow hunter Nysorly, Grummgar shot a molsume with the rifle when it attempted to attack Nysorly. Ironically, Nysorly shot Grummgar's speeder and nearly killed him in response, having been unaware of the molsume behind her.
