A surveillance spike was a device used during the Imperial Era that could be placed in a location in order to surveil that location.
In 3 ABY, a criminal Contract broker hired the scoundrel Kay Vess to plant a surveillance spike on an Sentinel-class landing craft at the Galactic Empire's Fort Sunfire on the desert planet Tatooine. That same year, Vess planted another surveillance spike for a different broker in the Crimson Dawn district of Mirogana, the capital city of the Outer Rim moon Toshara.
