A tarpoon was a weapon used by many Whiphid hunters.
It was a combination of a spear and a trident; its head was a trio of barbed blades, while the other end was attached to syntherope strand 20 meters long. It was thrown to a prey, and then pulled to bring it close to the hunter, who then finished it off with their own claws.
When the prey was too large and strong, sometimes the hunter "rode the prey", actually dragged by it.
