Transponder buoys were navigational aids that guided starships through hazardous areas. Fixed transponder buoys in the Rokwahl Asteroid Belt—located in the Expansion Region's Lazerian system—allowed starship traffic to pass through the asteroid belt unharmed. Tampering with these buoys was a capital offense, as stated by a warning to spacefarers that informed them of the buoys.
