The Skara Nal Mech, also known as Skara Nal Keeper, was an ancient walker and superweapon created by the culture of the Ancients eons before the founding of the Jedi Order. It was a massive, four-legged vehicle, armed with a head-mounted energy weapon capable of significant amounts of destruction. The vehicle eventually ended up buried on the planet of Skara Nal in the Kaldar Trinary system, protected by booby traps which could be traversed by the owners of a compass designed to lead people to the weapon. A crystal known as the Heart of the Mountain was inserted into a socket in the walker's control room to keep it inert. Removing the crystal would activate the walker and cause it to begin indiscriminately razing its surroundings.

Over time, the walker became the subject of pirate legend as an ancient city containing the Heart of the Mountain, which supposedly carried great power. Between 19 BBY and 18 BBY, the pirate and treasure hunter Phee Genoa and the Bad Batch traveled to the planet and discovered the ancient weapon after Bad Batch member Omega found the compass on Ord Mantell. Genoa activated the walker by removing the Heart of the Mountain from its socket, causing it to rampage until the crystal was returned to prevent the destruction of the Batch's starship. The act destroyed the walker, causing it to collapse, and melted the crystal.
