Onaconda Farr

Onaconda Farr, also known by the nickname "Ono," was a Rodian male politician and statesman who represented his homeworld of Rodia and the greater Savareen sector in the Republic Senate during the final decades of the Galactic Republic Era. Though a complicated and self-conscious individual in private, Farr was an outspoken advocate for democracy and progressive causes and a devoted servant to his people. As a participant in humanitarian efforts alongside Ruwee Naberrie, Farr became a lifelong mentor to his daughter, Padmé Amidala, who would eventually join him in the Senate. During the Clone Wars, a pan-galactic conflict between the Republic and its splinter state, the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Farr became a leading figure in the anti-war movement and worked with his allies to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Farr suffered personal crises throughout the war, and the mistakes he made trying to do what was right would lead to his assassination.

In the years before and during the Separatist Crisis, Farr worked alongside an influential group of like-minded senators, including Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and Amidala, to maintain loyalty and democracy in the Republic. Early in the Clone Wars, however, Farr faced a crisis of faith when Rodia became a target for piracy, and the Republic failed to deliver aid. Desperate to help his people, Farr made a deal with the Confederacy through Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation, reluctantly granting them the ability to exploit the Savareen sector in return for much-needed supplies. He became further troubled by his decision, however, when he learned that Viceroy Gunray additionally wanted him to hand Amidala over to the Separatists. Although Farr initially complied, Amidala convinced him to turn on Gunray, whom they arrested. Despite reconciling with Amidala and being welcomed back into the Republic, which sent relief aid to Rodia, Farr was haunted by his betrayal, which caused a decline in his political support.

For the remainder of his life, Farr was a staunch Republic loyalist but became one of the Senate's leading anti-war members. Although they successfully voted down a bill that would extend executive overreach, Farr and his allies failed to defeat two bills that deregulated the InterGalactic Banking Clan and expanded the Republic Military. Because of his contentious opposition to the military package, militarist senators targeted Farr in propaganda, and he was at one point violently assaulted by mercenaries. Hoping to stop the bill from coming into effect, Farr and Amidala introduced counter-legislation to reduce military spending and worked hard to gather support. While celebrating what seemed to be a coming victory, however, Farr suddenly died of what appeared to be heart failure. Investigations into his death revealed that he had been poisoned by his aide, Lolo Purs, in retaliation for his contract with the Confederacy. The late Farr's allies pushed to pass his final bill, but the motion failed in the Senate.
