Rancor Leader (pilot)

"Rancor Leader" was a pilot that served in the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. While stationed at the same base as the Tierfon Yellow Aces and Horizon Squadron, they led the Y-wing starfighter unit known as Rancor Squadron as Rancor Leader.

The leader of Horizon Squadron, Ghartes, frequently teased the Rancors, as his squadron often received better assignments. At one point, Horizon Squadron was tasked with escorting Alliance dignitaries, including Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan, to Dantooine. Ghartes had boasted about the assignment for days, pleased by the honor.

However, upon arriving at the hangar with the dignitaries, he found the base hangar redecorated with a banner reading "HOME OF THE VAUNTED CONVOY HERDERS." Rancor Leader, dressed in makeshift robes, conducted a mock knighting ceremony for their squadron's pilots. One pilot was declared "Supply Convoy Liaison Facilitator of the Month." The event left Ghartes stunned.

A holographic image capturing the event, including Leia alongside the solemn-looking Rancor Squadron, was displayed in the base's mess hall for years. During a later interview with holojournalist Corwi Selgrothe for the New Republic Heritage Division, Wes Janson recalled the prank Rancor Leader played on Ghartes.
