Rancor Squadron

Rancor Squadron, sometimes referred to as the Rancors, was a starfighter unit of the Rebel Alliance made up of BTL Y-wing starfighters, led by a pilot with the callsign Rancor Leader. The unit had a rivalry with Horizon Squadron and the Tierfon Yellow Aces, units that were typically given more desirable assignments that those of the Rancors.

On one occasion, the members of Rancor Squadron pranked Horizon Leader, Ghartes, whose squadron had been tasked with escorting Alliance dignitaries, including Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan, to Dantooine.

Ghartes had boasted about the assignment for days, pleased by the honor. However, upon arriving at the hangar with the dignitaries, he found the base hangar redecorated with a banner reading "HOME OF THE VAUNTED CONVOY HERDERS." Rancor Leader, dressed in makeshift robes, conducted a mock knighting ceremony for their squadron's pilots. One pilot was declared "Supply Convoy Liaison Facilitator of the Month." The event left Ghartes stunned while Yellow Ace Wes Janson laughed.
