In 21 BBY, following the Second Battle of Geonosis during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, raiders launched a series of attacks against hyperspace shipping lanes within and near the Outer Rim Territories. In response, Jedi General Eeth Koth led his fleet to track down the perpetrators. However, while traveling through the Saleucami system in the Outer Rim, the fleet was caught in a surprise attack launched by Separatist General Grievous, who boarded Koth's flagship, the Venator-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, with a force of battle droids and captured him.
