Tarkin Massacre

Canon Legends version → Linked from 16 articles

The Tarkin Massacre was a violent incident shortly after the rise of the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, in which Moff Wilhuff Tarkin landed his cruiser in Palmo Plaza, the central plaza of Ghorman's capital city Palmo, despite the presence of Ghorman protesters who were attempting to block the landing. The atrocity resulted in the death of five hundred unarmed civilians, contributing to a public outcry against Moff Tarkin that eventually resulted in his reassignment to pacification operations in the Western Reaches. Despite the Ghor erecting the Monument to the Fallen to remember the victims of Tarkin's cruelty, the massacre remained an unhealed wound in Ghorman's history and a reminder of Imperial cruelty on Ghorman, even as the Empire built an armory that overshadowed the Monument to the Fallen during the Suppression of Ghorman. These tensions eventually culminated in a second massacre in 2 BBY, in which Imperial troops opened fire on Ghormans protesting the Empire’s suppression of the planet.
