The Kastolar sector was dominated by the Hutt Clan during the High Republic Era. In the days after the destruction of the Galactic Republic space station Starlight Beacon by the Nihil pirates in 230 BBY, the clan annexed a number of Republic star systems. In 228 BBY, a Republic contact stationed on the astronomical object Rorak 5 learned the clan hoped to stabilize its dominance of the Kastolar sector and informed the Republic. Concerned by the development, Jedi Master Elzar Mann notified the crew of the Republic Longbeam Gios of the news. Republic Commander Velko Jahen told Mann the Hutts had been continually losing territory and noted recent clan losses of star systems.
