Flag officer

A flag officer was a position held in a faction's naval branch. In the Chiss Ascendancy, a flag officer was an officer including and above the rank of Commodore. Upon promotion to flag rank, a Chiss officer was stripped of ties to their Chiss family in a ceremony in which the Supreme Admiral declared "the Ascendancy is your family." This step was introduced to ensure that family politics did not interfere with the decisions of the military.

In the starfleet of the Galactic Empire, flags officers were (from higher to lower order) Admiral of the Fleet, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, Admiral, Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral and Commodore. Admiral Kassius Konstantine was described as a perfect model for an Imperial Navy flag officer.
