Air taxi

Air taxis, also sometimes called repulsor taxis or air cabs, were a type of small, airspeeder taxi used as passenger transports on planets with air traffic. On the ecumenopolis Coruscant, air taxis were a popular means of transportation for passengers and one of the planet's most characteristic sites. They were allowed unrestricted "free travel" that allowed them to leave the official autonavigated skylanes that confined most other vehicles on long journeys along defined corridors to prevent unmanageable traffic chaos and also utilized airbus lanes. To be rated "free travel", air taxi pilots had to pass demanding tests to proved their skills and their abilities to navigate the cityscape with safety. The vehicle's receivers also monitored the many channels of the Coruscant Air Traffic Control to allow the taxi drivers increased flexibility. Some air taxis on Coruscant were also piloted by droids.

Air taxi models used on Coruscant included the open-air EasyRide passenger airspeeder and the larger ComfortRide passenger airspeeder, both manufactured by Hyrotii Corporation and colloquially known as Coruscant air taxis; a closed model known as a Coruscant cab and the small hover taxis.
