Clan Balya

Clan Balya, along with clan Alya and clan Ilya, was one of three Bothan clans originally chosen to settle the planet Kothlis.

Balya was the largest of the three, and was chosen for the colonization owing to its close connections to the Galactic Republic government, considerably aiding the datawork pertaining to the planet's change of ownership and general development and commerce.

Being one of the founding clans, Balya members could occupy positions in the Bothan Colonial Board of Kothlis, and one additional member represented the clan.

During the Imperial era, Balya maintained with the Galactic Empire the ties they had with the Republic; thanks to that, the Empire kept a light presence on the colony.
