The Department of Punishment, also known as the Bureau of Punishments, was an Imperial subdivision that was tasked with the torture of captured criminals. The Master Torturer was the head of the division; Sir Vengnar Heiff held this position in 0 ABY. Han Solo was forced to sign a contract (via a droid) that gave Lord Vader direct permission to torture him to death. The President of the subdivision was murdered by New Republic partisans during the liberation of Coruscant in 7 ABY.
