The Grand Companies were the great trading conglomerates of the Spin hyperlane. Around 17,000 BBY, after Alsakan led other worlds along the Perlemian Trade Route to block the Grand Companies' expansion, the Companies objected. They found support with the Galactic Republic, providing a basis for the Alsakan Conflicts between the Republic and Alsakan.
