The Grand Plan, also known as the Sith imperative, was a plot by the Order of the Sith Lords that was centuries in the making. The Grand Plan was a precise formula for eradicating the Jedi Order, tearing down the Galactic Republic, and replacing with a Galactic Empire ruled by the Sith. During previous millennia, the Sith had unsuccessfully attempted to use an external enemy to destroy the Jedi and their associated republican regime; with the Grand Plan, they recognized the difficulties of such a strategy and instead opted to infiltrate the Republic and hijack it from within: instead of using force to overthrow the Republic with a Sith empire, they planned to use stealth to turn the Republic into a Sith empire. The plan was devised and initiated by the founder of the Order of the Sith Lords, Darth Bane, and carried out by all the subsequent Sith of his order's lineage.
