The rank of Senior Commander was a rank used within the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire.

Senior Commander was a rank within the Grand Army of the Republic among the Clones, in particular, it acted as the second-highest rank among the clones, with only Marshal Commander outranking it.

Hamelin served as a senior commander for the Rebel Alliance.

This line rank was used by the Imperial Navy. It ranked above Junior Commander, and below Senior Captain. Senior Commanders could hold a position of Captain (starship commanding officer) or Lieutenant (ship officer crew). The rank was the equivalent of Imperial Army and Starfighter Corps Major.

Not long after the Battle of Yavin, in 0 ABY, The Chimaera Grondarle held this rank in the capacity of the ship's first officer.
