Sycorax

Sycorax was a female witch who died many years before the Battle of Yavin. She claimed that she had the power to revive the dead. However, the people of Necropolis killed her only son and challenged her to revive him. After this, warned the people of Necropolis that she had cursed the entire world; if they failed to respect the proper rituals to honor the dead, the dead would rise and cause mayhem. She eventually died and was buried in the Crypt of the Ancients, although she would live on for centuries in the form of a horror legend, and due to the fear they held for her curse, the Necropolitans continued to perform the ancient funeral rites, including physically burying the body, long after most other planets in the galaxy had abandoned that practice.
