Symbiospore

The symbiospore was a fungus that looked like a broad frond. It grew on the planet Kothlis and produced its breathable atmosphere.

The symbiospore infected the upper bare branches of the Gankto tree in Arblis Forest, stealing nutrients from it. Its metabolism and crude photosynthesis produced air, but with a pungent moldy aroma. As a result, off-world visitors, even as far as Tal'cara, thought that the atmosphere smelled like moldy cheese.

Its spores were mildly poisonous for other beings, such as humanoids, but were food for millitiles, who also moved around the upper branches of the gankto. The spores's residue in millitiles's mouth could inflict a being when they got bit by them.
