The Yarvellian Institute was a prestigious medcenter located in Protobranch City on the planet Protobranch. During the High Republic Era, the institute became the Galactic Republic's center for research into the deadly Blight plaguing the galaxy. As such, a number of beings infected with the disease were brought to Protobranch to receive supportive care, often being placed in stasis fields to slow the progression of the Blight. The Yarvellian Institute had several wards and laboratories equipped with energy fields and other means of mitigating spread of dangerous pathogens.

After the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Anacondan physician Dr. Gino'le worked at the Yarvellian Institute. When a crew of Jedi and bounty hunters recovered the Nihil Minister of Advancement Baron Boolan from the Nihil, they brought him to the institute for him to deliver his supposed cure for the Blight. The Ithorian, however, truly developed a deadly virus intended to sever Force-users' connection to the Force. When the virus was administered, it ended up stripping the Living Force from any infected individual. Everyone in the secure room became infected, and bounty hunter Lourna Dee placed the others and herself in stasis fields until scientists at the institute could reverse-engineer an antidote.
