Red giant

A red giant was a star that had passed through the main sequence and was in the process of dying, the transformation causing them to increase in size and potentially consume any planets orbiting them. They became extremely large, and if a planet was close to them, that planet would be superheated and most likely uninhabitable by most species. Red giants were smaller than red supergiants.

An example of a red giant star was the sun in the Bastatha system, which made Bastatha almost completely uninhabitable. Another red giant was Sokor.
