A dying star became a red giant during the High Republic Era, in 382 BBY. During the star's transformation, it consumed the planets which had orbited it. The red giant's transformation was witnessed by the Galactic Republic communications droid EX-8C, which was on a journey from the planet Gloam in search of help for Jedi Master Rok Buran, the remaining member of the Republic Pathfinder team to which the droid had been attached.
