Architect bugs were a type of flying insect found on the planet Siline. Like much of the indigenous life on Siline, architect bugs interfaced with crystals, excreting tiny crystalline filaments to weave combs into their hive. Architect bugs built hives within forests, often inside hollow portions of trees, such as in low-lying root knees. The sparkling bugs were known to engage in familial cannibalism, frequently eating their young if the hive was under threat.
To the Silinese, having an architect bug population density of three hives per one hundred trees was considered to be a sign of a healthy forest. Culturally, the bugs came to represent industriousness and tenacity. Indeed, many Silinese survivors of natural disasters got architect bug etch tattoos. Architect bugs were represented on the flag of one of Siline's oldest nations. The bugs were neither poisonous nor a food source for the Silinese.
During the Siline Crowning Convocation in 134 BBY, the Silinese teenager Rhos Arthyst showed Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon a hive of architect bugs, educating her on the history and significance of the creatures.
