Cicada (creature)

Cicadas were a type of insect found in the galaxy. Various kinds of the bug could be found on different planets, such as the giant hundred-year cicadas of Thies IV and at least two kinds on the planet Siline. The reproductive cycles of the creature were variable depending on the variety of cicada. Those of Thies IV, who reproduced every century, were contingent upon geothermal cycling. At least two varieties of Silinese cicadas based their mating cycles around large rainfall. Cicadas were notable for their loud mating calls, which, when in chorus among the population, could make it hard for sentient beings to hear their surroundings.

During the Siline Crowning Convocation in 134 BBY, Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon thought that the local apex predator, ericadi, reminded her of the hundred-year cicadas of Thies IV. Later, during the survival level of the Convocation, Jecki had trouble assessing her surroundings due to the noise created by cicadas.
