Assault frigate

Assault frigates were a class of starship utilized by the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and later the New Republic, during the Galactic Civil War. The vessels were highly modified Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers that had been modified by a splinter group of Rendili StarDrive designers. The superstructure was stripped back, allowing for the engine capacity to be increased which also lowered fuel consumption. The main modification was reducing the ship's crew requirements by adding automation in the form of droids and computers.

The Rendili designers created a variety of assault frigates, incorporating Mon Calamari-designed deflector shield generators for increased shield output. At least two distinct models were built; the Mark I and Mark II designs.
