Dauntless (Imperial I-class)

The Dauntless was an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer that was in service of the Galactic Empire. The Star Destroyer was stationed above Jedha City in 1 BBY after Imperial Intelligence claimed a single destroyer would shut down any resistance to the Empire's kyber crystal mining operation on Jedha. Despite the deployment of the ship's considerable resources, including TIE fighter escorts for Imperial cargo shuttles ferrying kyber crystals to and from the city, Rebel attacks on Imperial forces continued, led by the rogue Saw Gerrera and his partisans.

The ship's role as a deterrent was ended following a final skirmish between rebel elements, including Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor, and the city's garrison. The Dauntless enacted Protocol 13, withdrawing its troops from the city shortly before its destruction by the Death Star, an Imperial superweapon whose superlaser was fueled by kyber crystals harvested from the very world it decimated.
