The Luminous was a battlecruiser and part of the Imperial affiliated Kuati Sector Forces in 8.5 ABY, at the time of the Galactic Civil War, in which the Alliance to Restore the Republic and later its successor state—the New Republic—fought against the Galactic Empire. The Luminous and the rest of the Kuati Forces protected the planet Kuat's shipyards, vital to the Imperial war effort. New Republic forces attacked Kuat that year, and the ion weaponry on the RZ-1 A-wing interceptors of Surprise Squadron overloaded the Luminous systems.
