The droid machine interface was a type of droid component that was used to determine the extent and nature of problems with technological items. It could interface with most standard technology and produce detailed technical information, which could then be used by a droid to aid in repairs. The interface was fairly common during the Dark Wars, a series of conflicts between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.
