Information retrieval

Information retrieval was a way of accessing information and data that existed during the Clone Wars.

In 21 BBY, when Korkie Kryze and his friends, fellow New Mandalorians Royal Academy of Government cadets Amis, Lagos, and Soniee snuck into a Sundari warehouse, they discovered a few unmarked Mandalorian secret service and a hooded man making a deal with a few Gotal smugglers. After the cadets escaped capture, they reported their discovery to Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Tano used information retrieval to reveal the face of Mandalorian Prime Minister Almec, hidden under the hood in the hologram. Chairman Baron Notluwiski Papanoida of Pantora used information retrieval to analyze a blood sample the bounty hunter Greedo left on the icon of the Moon Goddess. The sample enabled Papanoida and his son Ion to travel to Tatooine. There, they peacefully negotiated with Jabba the Hutt, forcing Greedo to confess that he had kidnapped the Baron's daughters. As a result, Greedo was instructed to lead the Papanoidas to Chalmun's Cantina, where they rescued Che Amanwe.

Onderonian rebel Steela Gerrera used such a device connected with a cable to the controls of a stolen Separatist Armored Assault Tank Mk I to successfully access it's functions. The Onderon rebels then used it to destroy Iziz's the power generator. Senator Padmé Amidala used an information retrieval device given to her by Rush Clovis to steal files from the InterGalactic Banking Clan's Main Vault on Scipio. Amidala and Clovis later used the device in connection with a datapad to read the stolen files which confirmed that the Banking Clan's vaults were empty and showed how the Confederacy of Independent Systems were allowed to avoid paying off their loans, while the Galactic Republic's debt continued to rise and how the savings were drained due to hundreds of withdrawals being made individually to remain unnoticed. The two later used the findings saved on the device to proof the conspiracy to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.
