Mega-ion cannon
Canon Legends version → Linked from 29 articles
A mega-ion cannon, also known as a superheavy ion cannon or an ion pulse-cannon, was a large ion cannon used by the Separatists. It could fire a large circular energy blast that could disable the power systems of entire fleets. A Subjugator-class heavy cruiser, the Malevolence was a superweapon equipped with two mega-ion cannons, on each port and starboard sides of the vessel. However, the Malevolence was destroyed when it crashed into the Dead Moon of Antar in the Prindaar system. A new mega-ion cannon was being constructed within a Separatist weapons factory on Abrion Major until it was discovered by the Republic, leading to the Battle of Abrion Bridge.
Years later, during the Galactic Civil War, the Chief of Rebel Intelligence for the Rebel Alliance, General Airen Cracken, wrote in a report to Commander-in-Chief Mon Mothma about Imperial weapons projects. In the report, he analyzed the mega-ion cannons on the Malevolence, and was curious as to why the Imperial Navy had not integrated it into its own armada.
