Radiation grenades were small explosives that were either thrown or launched from a grenade launcher. On impact, a radiation grenade detonated in a burst of light smoke, releasing a cloud of short-lived radioactive particles that immediately sickened and weakened targets. The radiation grenade had a 3-meter blast radius and bypassed most conventional armors and shields; because of this they were considered highly illegal and were used by only the most depraved or desperate armies. Radiation sickness would persist and progressively worsen until it was cured.
The grenade was used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars against the Republic clone troopers and their Jedi leaders.
