The coup on Pergitor occurred in 22 BBY, shortly before the start of the Clone Wars. After the bankruptcy of Jesa Corporation the planet had been under the control of the royal family, which had imposed strict rules on the population and controlled the planet prohibiting open dissent. After 15 years of oppression the young began to rebel, smuggling on the planet goods that had been prohibited since its colonization and starting a liberal movement on the planet that caused Pergitor's society to abandon its dogmatic rules and rituals for 15 years. In 22 BBY the Church of Infinite Perception, taking advantage of the dissatisfiement many conservatives had with the laxation of the planet's new way of life, organized a coup to take control of the government. Lead by a man simply known as The Preceptor, the Church exiled the royal family and established a fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship. Thousands were killed by the Church durning the coup but due to Pergitor's nebulous affiliation with the Galactic Republic, neither the Republic nor the Jedi could do anything to stop the bloody revolt.
