Jel-Novi

Jel-Novi was a location on the planet Ghorman. In 2 BBY, an event occurred in Jel-Novi which the Galactic Empire characterized as terrorism as part of their anti-Ghorman whispering campaign to allow the mining of Ghorman's deposits of the rare mineral kalkite, needed for the Emperor's "Energy Project," a cover for the creation of the DS-1 Orbital Battle Station's superlaser.

Three weeks after the event in Jel-Novi, following a firebombing of the Imperial Naval Terminal, an Imperial-aligned reporter mentioned the event in Jel-Novi as an example of terrorism. Days later, Imperial ships began unloading mining equipment in Jel-Novi to mine Ghorman's kalkite deposits and provoke an uprising against the Empire to justify Imperial control of the planet. As protests broke out in Ghorman's capital city Palmo the next day, Imperial Bureau of Standards employee Syril Karn mentioned the presence of Imperial mining ships in Jel-Novi to ISB Supervisor Dedra Meero when he confronted Meero on the true purpose of the Imperial presence on Ghorman.
