The Kuat shipyards, also dubbed Kuat Drive Yards after their custodian company, consisted of a massive space station which encircled the Core planet Kuat, utilized by Kuat Drive Yards. After the founding of the Galactic Empire, in 19 BBY the shipyards were converted from civilian shipyards to the manufacture of Imperial-class Star Destroyers and all manner of vehicles for the Galactic Empire. Around 17 BBY, the shipyards were the site of a bombing organized by a rebel infiltrator, who planted and detonated an explosive, creating a blast that killed the ten year old Gideon Hask's parents. Afterward, Hask was left an orphan.
Rebel agents were located near the Kuat Shipyards and gave reports to General Airen Cracken about their findings. The Alliance carried out a bombing run against the Kuat shipywards in the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin. In 5 ABY, the New Republic, the successor state of the Rebel Alliance, attacked the shipyards once again. The battle ended with a surrender from the Empire, and the shipyards were taken.
