Raid on the Janix Civil Defense HQ
Canon Linked from 10 articles
Between 17 BBY and around 13 BBY, Maul's crew carried out a raid on the Janix Civil Defense HQ to extract Looti Vario for information on the Pyke Syndicate.
As Tactical Defense Force Captain Brander Lawson and Two Boots received reports of outages on Level 8. The police discovered that their systems had been hacked. As the emergency systems activated, Lawson and Two Boots headed to the detention block to protect Vario. On Level 8, Maul's Zabrak henchmen cornered a police officer and a unit of police droids, gunning them down with a heavy rotary blaster cannon.. While Jedi Padawan Devon Izara waited anxiously inside her cell, Spybot activated the blast doors, separating Two Boots and Lawson. Two Boots attempted to regain control, but Spybot shocked him through a network terminal. Through the Force, Izara silently communicated with her master Eeko-Dio Daki, who sensed her distress.
Two Boots used his datapad to regain control of the prison's computer systems and unlocked the blast doors. With comms down, Lawson sent Two Boots to summon reinforcements. Lawson came to the aid of the police officers and droids who were attacked by Maul's Zabrak associates and even came face to face with Maul, who used the Force to pull his blaster pistol out of his hand before knocking the captain unconscious. Joining his associates, Maul killed several more police officers and droids with his lightsaber while Izara and Vario cowered in their cells.
After destroying the last police droid, Maul and his associates broke into Vario's cell. Maul confronted Vario him for his betrayal and the Aleena begged the former Sith Lord for mercy, offering ships, weapons, and money. Vario convinced Maul not to kill him, telling the Dathomirian that he can help him get to Marg Krim, the leader of the Pyke Syndicate. Therefore, Maul ordered his Scorn and Icarus to take Vario into custody. However, before leaving the detention block, Maul noticed Devon Izara in the opposing cell. He cut the lock and entered her cell. Izara immediately recognized him as Maul.
As Maul, Scorn and Icarus led Vario and Izara away from the cell block, the group ascended a ladder where they were pinned down by blasterfire from Lawson and his Tactical Defense Force officers. When Izara fled from her Zabrak captors, she fled down a tunnel, only to find a dead end. There, Spybot stunned her. Scorn lifted the unconscious Izara and carried her to the Shadow Collective's two awaiting transports, one being a stolen bank transport. Upon exiting the Police HQ from the roof, they short-circuited the circular door on the hangar, preventing Lawson, Two-Boots and the other police officers from breaking through the door, until the criminals had escaped the premises. After Lawson and Two-Boots destroyed the door, they commandeered an trash barge, and the police pursued Maul's airspeeders.
As the bank transport lumbers its way through a highway, it attracted the attention of a Tactical Defense Droid in a police airspeeder. The police airspeeder pursues the bank transport but the Mandalorians aboard destroyed the vehicle with a rocket launcher. Master Daki watched the fleeing vehicles from an overhead bridge. He Force jumped onto the highway, causing the smaller airspeeder carrying the Zabraks and Vario to capsize and crash, while the bank transport collided with the smaller vehicle. As the Zabraks climbed out of the vehicle, Maul confronted Daki.
When police forces led by Captain Lawson converged on the crash site, Maul distracted his pursuers, using the Force to split a nearby pedestrian bridge. As the police rescued the civilians, Daki uses his Force powers to suspend the bridge structure long enough for Lawson and his officers to evacuate the civilians on their commandeered transport.
