Cyborg

A cyborg or a machine, sometimes called a mod, was any living, organic being, sentient or not, whose body was enhanced with robotic parts. Cybernetic augmentation was an invasive process that changed a being's brain functions and physiology in significant ways, so much so that it was usually irreversible.

Cybernetic technology could be used to help repair a body or sustain a life to varying degrees. Luke Skywalker received a cybernetic hand after losing his original hand in a lightsaber duel, while almost the entirety of General Grievous' body was replaced by cybernetic limbs and other body parts. After falling to the dark side and becoming Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker was severely burned on Mustafar, requiring him to live in a cybernetic suit of armor for the rest of his life. In addition, all of his limbs were amputated and required mechanical replacements. The human Tarr Kligson was saved from death with cybernetics but began to think of himself as a droid, intending to ascend into a fully-droid form. He believed his cybernetic form left him ostracized by organics and droids alike.

The Scourge focused on taking control of cyborgs to learn how to transplant itself into organic life. Searching for cyborgs, the Scourge infected a cyborg on Gallios, Lobot, Magna Tolvan, and Beilert Valance, who was offered to the Scourge by a willing Kligson. The Scourge, however, did not assimilate Kligson—judging him to be too human for itself at that time—and left him to the mercy of Valance's angered allies. The Scourge's ultimate target was Vader, whose Force powers, knowledge, and memories were of great interested to the Scourge. During the Scourge of Coruscant, the corpses of four death troopers were possessed by the Scourge. With his latest rebellion against his Sith Master Darth Sidious thwarted, Vader willingly bonded with the Scourge in an effort to finally overpower Sidious. He quickly separated himself from its main consciousness, however, and attempted to take control of it for himself.

The Zero Angle cantina had a cyborg bartender, Florn. Guavian security soldiers were cybernetically enhanced humans that served as the enforcers of the Guavian Death Gang. Fennec Shand had a cybernetic lower abdomen after she was shot and nearly killed by Toro Calican. C-3PO often introduced himself using the phrase "I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations."
