Imperial Remnant

The Imperial Remnant, also referred to as the Imperial Remnants, Pellaeon's Empire, the true Empire or just the Remnant, was an oligarchical faction formed from various fractured elements of the ousted Galactic Empire. Among its people, it continued to be referred to officially as the Galactic Empire or simply the Empire like its previous incarnation. The Imperial Remnant was located in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy with its planetary capital on Bastion. With the Empire's defeat, the New Republic was formed while the Imperial Remnant began to resist the Republic and sought to regain control of the galaxy under its leadership, leading to a renewal of conflict. Under Supreme Commander Gilad Pellaeon, the Remnant began to dramatically lose territory, which eventually forced it to negotiate a treaty for peaceful coexistence with the New Republic. In the years that followed, it entered the Yuuzhan Vong War, and joined the Galactic Alliance. However, during another war, the Remnant departed the Alliance. Soon after, Jagged Fel was elected as Head of State during the transition into a democracy, however Fel would be returned to power and would go on to transform the Remnant into a dynastic monarchy.

After the fall of the Empire, Admiral Natasi Daala formed the "United Warlord Fleets" out of the Deep Core and began a campaign against the New Republic. However she failed, and relinquished full command fleets to Gilad Pellaeon, who after the campaign failed pulled fleets out of the Deep Core, and annexed the Pentastar Alignment and seized fortified sectors on the fringes of the galaxy and established the Council of Moffs on a temporary headquarters on Orinda. It maintained a strong military and limited venues of public expression, but did not rule by terror and force and abolished both slavery and anti-alien sentiment. The Imperial Remnant was able to expand it's borders through a successful campaign in that year. However, Republic advances over the next seven years reduced the Remnant to just eight sectors and it's headquarters relocated to Bastion as a result. Here, Pellaeon realized that the war was lost and sued for peace with the New Republic, ending the Galactic Civil War in 19 ABY.

The Imperial Remnant then entered into a tense but peaceful relationship with the New Republic, while for the next six years, a number of unrepentant Imperials fled to the Remnant, taking a vast amount of wealth with them to parts unknown. When the Republic requested Remnant assistance in repelling an invasion by the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong in 25 ABY, the Moffs elected to instead sit the war out and fortify their own territory against the invaders. After conquering much of the galaxy and capturing the New Republic capital of Coruscant, the Yuuzhan Vong attacked Bastion in 28 ABY and forced an Imperial retreat. Pellaeon was finally able to convince the reluctant Moff Council to take the fight to the enemy, and under his direction, the Imperial Remnant dissolved and integrated into the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, the New Republic's successor state. 29 ABY saw the Yuuzhan Vong defeated by the Galactic Alliance's combined fleets at Coruscant, and Pellaeon later retired.

Former Imperial holdings as part of the Galactic Alliance, took part in the brief, but devastating Swarm War in the Unknown Regions along side the Chiss Ascendancy against the Colony during a period of great expansion by the Killik. 41 ABY saw former Imperial leader Pellaeon returned when Galactic Alliance Chief of State Darth Caedus requested aid in the Second Galactic Civil War against a Confederation of breakaway planets. When Pellaeon refused to support Caedus' brutal tactics in the Second Battle of Fondor, he was assassinated with Drikl Lecersen acting as their de facto leader of newly reborn Imperial Remnant, who authorized the creation of a nanovirus that targeted the bloodline of the royal family of the Hapes Consortium. After the war, the Galactic Alliance confronted the Moffs with an ultimatum: face war crime trials, or install a young man named Jagged Fel as their new Head of State and force the outmatched Confederation to surrender.

The revived Imperial Remnant, now independent from the Galactic Alliance as a result of the war, but in 43 ABY, Fel participated in attempts at reunification into the Galactic Alliance. Having survived an assassination attempt in 44 ABY by a power-hungry Admiral Daala, who hoped to usurp control of the Remnant, Fel subsequently issued reforms and called a general election among the Remnant's citizens, and with his assistance, Admiral Vitor Reige defeated the popular Daala and became the new Head of State. Fel later returned to the post and used his "Victory Without War" initiative to spread Imperial influence throughout the galaxy while aiding poverty-stricken worlds, and the Remnant absorbed some of the Galactic Alliance's territory as Fel ascended as Emperor, whose reign reorganized the Remnant.
