Badlands (Siline)

The badlands were an area breaking up a forest on the planet Siline. It was an arid landscape devoid of any life, which emerged around 228 BBY when the Blight appeared on various worlds throughout the galaxy, consuming the life force of anything it touched, before it was stopped by the Jedi Order. Despite the abrupt end of the Blight's expansion on Siline, the afflicted area remained devoid of life for nearly a century, gaining its new name of the badlands. Around 80 years after its creation, the surrounding forest began to slowly reclaim a foothold in the blighted land, but after nearly two decades, only a few meters had been repopulated, though a few patches of foliage had also emerged.

The devastation wrought by the Blight collapsed some of the planet's crust, revealing undiscovered layers of its strata. This exposed the valuable mineral iflisalt. The great-grandmere of Lionine Graf took advantage of this opportunity, establishing the Graf-Siline Industries Consortium and developing proprietary technology to detect and extract iflisalt. Over generations, this gave the Graf family an important role in Siline's economy. Furthermore, the Grafs would place their base of operations near the badlands, their mines extending beneath the blighted land.

By 134 BBY, the badlands still were unsettling to Force-sensitives. During the Crowning Convocation held that year, Jedi Padawans Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar visited the badlands with three Silinese during the survival portion of the competition. The Padawans were deeply disturbed by the lifelessness of the place, despite purposefully not embracing the Force during the competition. As a prank, Yord touched the calcified ground of the badlands and pretended to be injured, much to Jecki's consternation.
